It’s been a good week despite the cold, rainy weather we’ve been experiencing.  The good part is that it’s not snow or ice.

Sunday worship was really something.  We were unconventional for Baptists, we did things different than usual.   I’m not sure there was anyone who wasn’t touched as we considered the value of life.

We shared the following video so folks could see that every person, no matter the challenges that brought them into the world, is a person of great worth and God can use them in a mighty way.

We’ll be adding some other little things to help keep everyone updated on service times and events. With the winter weather we sometimes have to cancel services so we’re setting up some contact systems.

The first is to keep you updated via text messages. If you text Follow FairmontUpdates to 40404 you should receive notices if we need to cancel services or some other important news needs to be shared quickly.

The second system will be an automatic phone system similar to what the schools are using to announce events and changes. We’ll be testing that system as soon as we have everything in place.

If all goes well in about a week we will have our old ceiling made secure so we don’t experience any more falling tiles and we’ll have a new look in the sanctuary as a new ceiling is installed.  The sanctuary will also get a fresh coat of paint.

We’re looking forward to the new, updated look and the opportunity to make the Lord’s house a more welcoming sight for all who come to worship.  Please pray for the safety of the workers since they’ll be assembling a scaffold system to be able to reach everything and also that the work gets done quickly.

We were able to hand out school supplies to 35 kids in the community and help them get off to a good start for the 2011-12 school year.  We appreciate all the donations and the help!

Our School Supply Give Away is this Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to noon.  Every year we help 30 – 40 kids so they have the supplies they need to begin the school year.

Please pray for this event because it provides an opportunity to connect with families in our community and show them God’s love.

Fairmont Baptist Church invites the community to a free Christian concert at 10:45 AM, Sunday Sept. 12 with Christian recording artist Blake Bolerjack.  The concert will be held at Fairmont Baptist Church. Blake Bolerjack provides a dynamic blend of Southern Gospel favorites and Christian Contemporary music. Bolerjack feels his inspiration for his music comes from the number of people he’s seen who are hurting and feel like they are alone. Bolerjack says, “I’ve met so many people who feel like they have to fix themselves before they can come to God. God wants you as you are, let Him fix you.” Bolerjack says he can relate to these struggles because of his own dramatic past—a past he says was plagued with believing lies that he was worthless and inadequate.  About his message’s importance he explains, “My message and music really focus on how there is someone who cares about you and what you’re going through…and his name is Jesus.”

 Blake Bolerjack is a full time recording artist who travels all across the nation sharing concerts and special music. Bolerjack gained nationwide recognition with the presence of his single, “Somebody Cares” on national radio charts. He has appeared with notable groups such as The Booth Brothers, The Greenes, and has sung several times for TBN programming. Of Blake’s gift it has been said, “Blake is an amazing tenor with an incredible gift for projecting spiritual feeling with his voice.” More information and music clips can be found at Blake’s website: www.blakebolerjack.com

The concert will be at Fairmont Baptist Church Sunday, September 12th during their morning service at 10:45 AM. The church is located at 2733 N. 44^th Street, Fairmont City, IL.  The general public is invited to attend. The concert is free admission and a love offering will be received. Blake’s CDs will also be available for purchase at the concert.

Last Saturday, August 7th,  we held our 2010 event and had about 50 students and their families come and pick up supplies for this school year.  We enjoy getting to talk with them about the upcoming school year and developing relationships with these families.  We already had one person attend church Sunday the 8th because of the event.

We appreciate your prayers and support as we seek to share the Gospel using a variety of methods to share the message.  Our next big event is the Blake Bolerjack concert on September 12th at 10:45 a.m.  We’ll be posting more about that in the next few weeks.  For now, mark down that date and make plans to attend!

Please be on time because we only have so much to give away.  We can’t fill every need but we will do our best to evenly distribute the supplies we have to help the kids start the school year.

The church is located at 2733 N. 44th Street in Fairmont City.  The School Supply Give-Away is held in the basement.  Come in the front door and you’ll the stairs to your right.

Brent truly is a talented singer and songwriter and his skills as a ventriloquist are tremendous.  He gives Sam such an endearing personality that you just can’t help but love him.
